Comments from Lab. Stundents

Mr. A, Master Course Student

  • Q. Why did you choose this laboratory?
I chose this laboratory because my interest in communications grew after the Corona disaster, and I wanted to belong to a laboratory related to communications technology.
  • Q. What is the best thing about being in this laboratory?
I think it is good if you enjoy working with your hands, because you can learn basic knowledge about communications, and you can actually touch wireless sensors and microcomputers to build sensor nodes, depending on the content of the research.
  • Q. Please tell us about your seminar and laboratory.
Currently, we have an online seminar once a week. Some of us are doing research remotely, and some of us are doing research in the lab. There are sensor kits and microcomputers scattered all over the lab.
  • Q. Please give a message to those who will be assigned to your lab.
I think that those who are interested in the field of wireless communications will be able to conduct fulfilling research because there is a supportive environment centering on the professor.

Mr. B, Master Course Student

  • Q. Why did you choose this laboratory?
Because I wanted to learn about the IoT in depth and comprehensively from the basics of the lower layers to its application to systems and applications.
  • Q. What is the best thing about being in this laboratory?
    - I feel that I have acquired the habit of self-motivated learning. I enjoy being able to work on research independently with free ideas.
    - From early on, you can try your hand at international conferences and paper submissions.
    - My coding skills improved through protocol stack development.
  • Q. Please tell us about your seminar and laboratory.
Although it depends on the content of the research, remote work is basically possible. There are no rules regarding core hours, so I am not restricted by location or time.
  • Q. Please give a message to those who will be assigned to your lab.
I believe that you can lead a free research life based on your own interests or goals: e.g.
    - Want to explore Information and Communication Technology
    - Interested in machine learning
    - Like working with embedded systems and electronics
    - Want to write code anyway
    - Focus on work-life balance
    - Want to do research and achieve results
    - etc.

Mr. C, Master Course Student from China

  • Q. Why did you choose this laboratory?
IoT was my second choice during my sophomore year of college. I thought my major (digital media) was not deep enough and decided to continue studying IoT-related knowledge after graduation.
    其实大二分专业时第二志愿是物联网。毕业后考虑到自己的专业(数字媒体)学的深度不足,所以想继续朝物联网方向进学。
  • Q. What is the best thing about being in this laboratory?
I think it is good that I can discuss and help each other with my seniors, classmates, and juniors on matters related to my research. What I want to do after that is to do experiments with lab students in the lab or online.
    觉得比较好的是可以和前辈后辈讨论研究方面的话题以及互相帮助。这之后比较希望的是可以和同学线上或线下聊天以及进行实验。
  • Q. Please tell us about your seminar and laboratory.
The seminar is held once a week, and fourth-year students and graduate students take turns presenting online. There are also lectures by 4th year students in the first semester. The lab has a variety of experimental facilities, and students who need to experiment with hardware can do so in the lab.
    轮讲会每周一次,四年级生和大学院生轮流发表进度。上半学期会有四年级生进行讲课。研究室里有各种各样的器材,需要硬件的同学有时会在研究室进行实验。
  • Q. Please give a message to those who will be assigned to your lab.
Students who are interested in IoT, such as sensors, circuits, and wireless communication, can come and study and research. Also, it is good if you are willing to communicate actively with teachers and classmates.
    对传感器、电路和无线通讯等物联网相关有兴趣的可以来进行学习研究。另外如果能积极和老师同学进行学业或日常交流来活跃研究气氛就更好了。

Mr. D, Master Course Student

  • Q. Why did you choose this laboratory?
At the time, I was interested in distributed processing, and at an open lab at another laboratory, a senior member of that laboratory told me that this Laboratory was doing distributed processing, so I chose this Laboratory.
(To be honest, however, the distributed processing I was interested in was horizontal load balancing, so it was a bit different, but I am enjoying my current research in this way as well.)
  • Q. What is the best thing about being in this laboratory?
The ability to learn about networks. Since there is a lot of research on wireless, undergraduates read books on networking and wireless in the first semester seminar. I had to rely on a strong person in the same group to get through the network experiment in the first semester of B3, but I was able to learn through this seminar. Also, since the network field is within the scope of the graduate school examinations, I can take advantage if I am given the question.
  • Q. Please tell us about your seminar and laboratory.
The seminar is online (Google Meet). Microcontrollers and sensors are placed everywhere in the lab.
  • Q. Please give a message to those who will be assigned to your lab.
f you are interested in networking but do not have any knowledge or experience, it is no problem at all. In fact, I think there are very few people who come into the lab with any knowledge or experience.

Mr. E, Master Course Student

  • Q. Why did you choose this laboratory?
I chose this laboratory because I wanted to do research on communication technology and its applications.
  • Q. What is the best thing about being in this laboratory?
While learning the fundamentals of communications, I am able to conduct research on machine learning and wireless sensors using this knowledge. This allows me to learn a wide range of information engineering.
  • Q. Please tell us about your seminar and laboratory.
Currently, we have an online seminar once a week. As for research, you can proceed at home or in the lab. I am also very grateful for the friendly atmosphere in which I can easily get advice and help from Prof. Komuro and my seniors if I have any questions or problems. Q. Please give a message to those who will be ass
  • Q. Please give a message to those who will be assigned to your lab.
Telecommunications is an inseparable part of our modern world. I recommend this laboratory to those who are interested in IoT and big data.
