  • Our Research Theme

Our laboratory studies the basic technology of information and communication and its application to support human life. We study the design of information and communication systems and develop systems using information and communication technologies. In particular, we study "environmental monitoring systems using IoT," "emotion estimation systems using IoT," "design of wireless sensor networks," "indoor location estimation using IoT," and "advancement of optical wireless communication. In the research on environmental data monitoring systems using IoT, we develop sensors to measure environmental data, construct environmental data collection systems, and build systems to analyze and predict environmental conditions. In our research on emotion estimation systems using IoT, we develop sensors to acquire indoor environment data regarding human perception, construct indoor environment and biometric data collection system, and analyze the collected environmental data. Then we estimate and predict the level of arousal, stress, and pleasure/discomfort using only indoor environment sensor data. In our research on indoor location using IoT, we develop a system to estimate the location of persons (terminals) in a room from the radio wave strength of Bluetooth beacons using statistical models and machine learning. In our research on the design of wireless sensor networks, we study how to design wireless sensor networks to provide communication performance that meets the demands of IoT-based application systems. In our research on the advancement of optical wireless communication, we study how to improve the information transmission speed and reliability of optical wireless communication.
